USB-serial adapters include Griffin Technology's iPort , a video/serial adapter that installs inside the iMac, plus the external Keyspan USB Serial Adapter, or the full featured Keyspan SX Pro Adapter PCI Card which also support various tablets, cameras, modems, printers and PDAs (Newton, PalmPilot, Psion), but not MIDI, LocalTalk, StyleWriters (1500, 2200, 2400 or 2500) or "externally clocked" devices.
For systems that have been upgraded with serial port cards, assuming that you have a free serial port, our Mac conversion cable should be sufficient for allow you to use the X10 controller. This cable is included with the Home Automation Starter Kits.
